Thin LED strip wires are the awkward part of any lighting installation: too fine for a screw terminal, easy to nick, and easy to pull out. In August 2016 we started offering Electro Terminal's SDKF screwless installation connectors for exactly that job, with a clamping range that starts at 0.2 mm².

The problem with thin wires

A screw terminal sized for mains cable does not grip a 0.2 mm² conductor well. Tighten it too little and the wire works loose; too much and the strands break. Twisting thin and thick conductors together under one screw is worse. A push-in spring clamp avoids both, because the clamping force comes from the spring, not from how hard the installer turns the screwdriver.

What the SDKF offers

  • Clamping range 0.2 to 2.5 mm² for solid, rigid stranded and flexible wires.
  • Different wire cross sections can be combined in one terminal, so a fine strip lead and a mains conductor can land in the same connector.
  • High pull-out forces.
  • Rigid wires connect without opening the release lever.
  • A viewing window to check each clamping point, which makes the joint safer to sign off during installation.

UL approval for North America

When we announced the SDKF in 2016, Electro Terminal had just added UL approval for Canada and the US, for the standard types only. Electro Terminal's current SDKF page lists CE, ENEC, UL listed and UKCA approvals, a rating of 450 V and 24 A, and a stripping length of 9 to 10 mm.

Transparent versions

The SDKF is also made in a transparent TR-AN housing in two, three and five-way versions, so the wires can be seen inside the whole connector, not just through the window.
