From components to systems.
A short history of how Luxtron moved from parts to systems.
Luxtron Systems started in 2009, but the story starts much earlier. Founder Vikas Kapila spent his early career deep in lighting technology and components. He was the first technical employee of Tridonic's UAE operation, where he built a strong foundation on the technical side of lighting. In 2007, after leaving Tridonic, he spent two years with a French media facade company, then took everything he'd learned and laid the foundation of Luxtron in 2009.
Early times
Luxtron began by selling Helvar magnetic ballasts, A.A.G. Stucchi lampholders, Almeco reflectors and aluminium sheets, and other allied lighting components. This was our foundation and our primetime, when we supplied factories around the Middle East, primarily across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
CKD kits
As technology moved, so did we: magnetic ballasts gave way to electronic ballasts, and electronic ballasts gave way to LED drivers. Over time we grew from selling individual components to supplying full CKD kits, bringing together COBs from Citizen (Japan), lampholders and COB holders from A.A.G. Stucchi (Italy), heatsinks from Mechatronix (Taiwan) and aluminium reflectors from Almeco (Italy). We also kept a strong presence in the market for magnetic and electronic ballasts from Helvar (Finland).
Times changed, and so did we
In these challenging times the market moved completely from conventional light sources to LED. It was a big challenge for us and our European partners: innovate and evolve, or be out of the market. Partners like Helvar, A.A.G. Stucchi and Citizen developed new technologies to meet it. The most remarkable was A.A.G. Stucchi, Italy, which made a real paradigm shift from standard lampholders to track systems.
We changed our market focus too. We found a large market for good quality, efficient fixtures at affordable prices, and with our long experience of the complexities involved, we could put together the right product mix for it.
Controls
By 2021 we moved beyond the fixtures themselves and into the systems that run them. We began supplying lighting controls, starting small and growing our capability project by project.
What's next
Since 2025 we've been working on the next layer: bringing AI into the systems we build. The goal is the same one we've had since 2009, staying a step ahead of where the technology is going.
