From components to systems.

A short history of how Luxtron moved from parts to systems.

Luxtron Systems started in 2009, but the story starts earlier. Founder Vikas Kapila spent his early career deep in lighting components. He was the first employee of Tridonic's UAE office, where he built a foundation in the technical side of lighting. In 2007 he left Tridonic to spend two years with a French facade company, then took everything he'd learned and started Luxtron in 2009.

The beginning

Luxtron began by selling Helvar magnetic ballasts. As the technology moved, so did we: magnetic ballasts gave way to electronic ballasts, and electronic ballasts gave way to LED drivers. Over time we grew from selling individual components to supplying full CKD kits, bringing together COBs from Citizen, lampholders and COB holders, heatsinks from Mechatronix, and aluminium sheets from Almeco. If it went into a light fixture, we could source it and supply it as a complete kit. In our primetime we supplied factories around the globe, primarily across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

CKD kits

Full CKD kits assembled from COBs from Citizen, lampholders and COB holders, heatsinks from Mechatronix, and aluminium sheets from Almeco. If it went into a light fixture, we could source it and supply it as a complete kit, to factories around the globe, primarily across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Local assembly

Around 2019, as our partners evolved (Stucchi, for example, moving into track systems), we saw an opportunity. We already understood how fixtures went together from years of building CKD kits. So we started assembling locally and selling our own fixtures. Those fixtures have since gone into projects across the region.

2021

Controls

By 2021 we moved beyond the fixtures themselves and into the systems that run them. We began supplying lighting controls, starting small and growing our capability project by project.

What's next

Since 2025 we've been working on the next layer: bringing AI into the systems we build. The goal is the same one we've had since 2009, staying a step ahead of where the technology is going.
