The SLK 8 from Electro Terminal is a luminaire connector that makes a DALI luminaire wireless. It replaces the mains terminal block inside the fitting, and because it carries a Casambi radio module and a DALI power supply, the driver behind it can be switched, dimmed and grouped from a phone or tablet with no control wiring back to a panel. We started supplying it in Dubai in April 2023.

What is inside the connector

Every luminaire already needs a terminal block for mains in. SLK 8 does that job and adds the control side in the same housing:

  • Five poles for mains supply and DALI, screwless, taking 0.5 to 2.5 mm² conductors with a 9 to 10 mm strip length.
  • An integrated Casambi CBM-003 radio module.
  • A DALI power supply, so the connector drives the DALI line to the gear itself. No separate bus power supply.
  • Up to six DALI channels.
  • Rated 250 V and 16 A, with through-wiring for daisy-chaining luminaires on one circuit.

Electro Terminal lists three versions (standard, ALP M4 and OF) with different fixing and earthing options, and an earth tag is available. The connector is ENEC approved.

How it wires up

Mains comes into the SLK 8 as it would into any connector. Out of it run L and N to the LED driver, plus the two DALI wires. The driver needs nothing special: any DALI-dimmable driver on the far side will do, which is why the same part works for a new luminaire design or for an existing DALI fitting being converted.

Where it makes sense

The obvious case is a refurbishment where pulling DALI cable through finished ceilings is not an option. Swap the terminal block for an SLK 8, keep the DALI driver, and the fittings join a Casambi network that is set up and controlled through the Casambi app on iOS or Android. Scenes, groups and dimming are all handled in the app.

It also suits luminaire makers who want to offer a wireless version of a DALI product without designing a second housing, since the connector takes the place of a part that is already there.

Specifying it

The current data, variants and downloads are on Electro Terminal's SLK 8 page, and our summary is on the SLK 8 product page. For a whole project, wired or wireless, our controls range covers the rest, and you can send us the luminaire schedule if you want a second opinion on which fittings can be converted.
