In January 2017 we added Electro Terminal's MICROCON SMD to our range: a push-in PCB connector that is soldered onto the board like any other SMD part and stands only 3.5 mm high. It was our "little one", made for LED boards where there is little room above the board.

Why the height matters on LED boards
On a linear LED board or a small module, the connector sits right next to the LEDs. Anything tall beside them blocks part of the light or gets in the way of the optic or diffuser that goes on top. At 3.5 mm the MICROCON SMD keeps a low profile, and because it is a surface mount part it goes through the same reflow process as the LEDs, with no separate through-hole soldering step.
Features at a glance
- Clamping range 0.2 to 0.75 mm², for solid and flexible wires.
- Wires release with a release pin, or by twisting and pulling, so a lead can be changed without desoldering anything.
- Suitable for manual and automatic wiring.
- Lowest height 3.5 mm.
Versions and ratings
Electro Terminal's current data lists two versions, 1P (art. no. 88167880) and 2P (art. no. 88167881):
| Nominal voltage | 600 V (1P), 320 V (2P) |
|---|---|
| Nominal current | 6 A |
| Stripping length | 8 to 9 mm |
| Max. ambient temperature | T 105 |
| Approvals listed | CE, OVE, cURus |

Electro Terminal also publishes the recommended pad layouts, which is what the PCB designer needs before the board goes to fabrication:
