Helvar has launched a Node D4i series for ActiveAhead, its wireless lighting control solution. The new nodes are DALI-2 certified, sit in a standard Zhaga Book 20 slot in the luminaire, and share their design with Helvar's existing DALI-2 luminaire sensors. The point is that one luminaire body can now be built as either a wired or a wireless fitting.

Three nodes

The R44 nodes come in IP30 and IP65 versions, and the high bay node is IP65. All of them work with D4i LED drivers as well as standard DALI-2 and DALI drivers. Helvar lists offices, education, healthcare, car parks and industrial spaces as targets, with the high bay version meant for warehouses, logistics centres and factories.

One luminaire, wired or wireless

The nodes follow the same design as Helvar's 324D2 and 325D2 DALI-2 luminaire sensors. A luminaire maker can cut one Zhaga Book 20 opening and decide per order what goes in it: a wired DALI-2 sensor for a Helvar Imagine project, a wireless node with sensor for ActiveAhead, or a node without sensor for fittings that only need to join the network. Fewer distinct parts, same housing.

Luminaires fitted with Node D4i form a Bluetooth Mesh network with other ActiveAhead nodes. ActiveAhead can also connect to the wired Imagine system and to Helvar Insights cloud services, so a wireless floor does not end up as an island.

What it means here

For luminaire makers in the region, the Zhaga slot is the part to plan now. If a new downlight, panel or high bay has a Book 20 opening, it can follow the project rather than the other way round: the same SKU goes to a wired DALI-2 office tower and a wireless warehouse refit. For specifiers, it means asking for a Zhaga Book 20 slot in the fixture schedule keeps both control routes open until the controls package is decided.
