Helvar has added two ceiling sensors to its DALI-2 range: the 3430D2 Corridor multisensor and the 3440D2 Wide Range multisensor. Announced on 26 March, they are aimed at the large, uniform, high-traffic areas of a building where the job is simple presence detection over a big area, and where the premium 32xD2 sensors are more than the space needs.

Both are DALI-2 certified and combine presence detection with constant light control. The 3430D2's long detection pattern is shaped for corridors, so one sensor covers a longer run; the 3440D2 covers a wide circle for open areas.

Where they sit in the range

Helvar is clear that the 32xD2 family stays the choice for dense, high-resolution sensing and the data that comes with it. The new pair fills the gaps: corridors, open-plan areas and halls where coverage per device matters more than resolution. Helvar's portfolio manager says the aim is to reduce both hardware cost and installation hours on large projects, with fewer devices in long corridors and wide halls, and he names education and healthcare, where budgets are tight, as the obvious markets.

What it means for projects here

Schools, hospitals and the back-of-house areas of malls and hotels in the region have long corridors and big circulation spaces where a sensor every few metres is hard to justify. A 40 m corridor pattern changes that arithmetic, and fewer sensors also means fewer DALI addresses and less bus current spent on detection. Because the new sensors are DALI-2 certified, they sit on the same lines as the rest of a Helvar DALI-2 system, with the Imagine 945 or 950 controllers, so a project can use the premium sensors in offices and meeting rooms and the new ones in the circulation.

Next steps

Both sensors are in our Helvar controls range. If you have a layout with long corridors or open halls, send it to us and we will count the sensors both ways.
