Electro Terminal has announced the end of two long-running connector families. The SLK 5 screwless luminaire connector and the EKL S product groups will be discontinued on 31 December 2025, and the last date to place orders for either is 31 August 2025. For SLK 5, the named replacement is the SLK X, which Electro Terminal launched this autumn.

The EKL S notice covers EKL 0 S, EKL 1 S, EKL 2 S and EKL 3 S, plus EKL 4 SVCE and EKL 5 SVCE, and says new prices apply to these groups from 1 January 2025. In both cases Electro Terminal warns that it will deliver until its raw material runs out, which may be before the end of 2025, so late orders cannot be guaranteed.

SLK X in place of SLK 5

The SLK X keeps the SLK 5 mounting hole pattern and its familiar mounting and earthing options, so most luminaires can switch without changing the gear tray. What changes is the size: the SLK X is more compact, with a height of 16 mm that matches the current generation of slim LED drivers. Electro Terminal lists other improvements too:

  • versions with and without mounting pins
  • an SK II version for protection class II and more demanding uses such as outdoor luminaires
  • most variants UL-listed, and no separate RC type needed any more
  • compatibility with the BFP ZUG SLK 7 and BFP ZUG OF strain reliefs

The notice maps every SLK 5/5 article, including the OF and RC versions and the pre-wired DALI and earth configurations, to SLK X.

What luminaire makers should do now

Most of the luminaire factories we supply build to a fixed bill of materials, and a connector change means a sample run and sometimes a new certification file. Eight months between now and the last order date is enough, but only if the work starts early:

  1. List every product that uses SLK 5 or an EKL S strip.
  2. Get SLK X samples and check fit with your driver and tray, especially if you use strain relief.
  3. Update drawings and certification documents where the connector is named.
  4. Place any bridging order for SLK 5 or EKL S well before 31 August 2025.

The SLK X product page has the datasheet, and the rest of the range is in our connectors section. Electro Terminal's own SLK X page lists every variant. Send us your SLK 5 part numbers and we will match them to SLK X and arrange samples.
